To become engaged, a [[Mermaid's Pendant]] must be presented. The Mermaid's Pendant can be purchased from the [[Old Mariner]] on [[The Beach|the beach]] for {{price|5000}} (after repairing the bridge (300 [[wood]]), upgrading the [[farmhouse]] at least once, and being eligible for marriage with a villager). The Old Mariner only appears on rainy days, meaning he will never appear during [[Winter]].

If they don't cancel, their spouse will be gone by the next morning and their friendship level will return to 0 hearts. Under their name it will state ''(ex)''.
